Croix de Guerre (WW1)

 

 

This was instituted on 5 October 1915 to reward acts of bravery on the battlefield. Mentions in despatches were shown on the suspension and service ribbon in the form of a small Belgian Lion, or palms, with King Albert's monogram as follows:

Bronze Palm

Army despatch

Gilt Lion

Divisional despatch

Silver Lion

Brigade despatch

Bronze Lion

Regimental despatch

It was also awarded to foreign military personnel.
