Resistance Medal

The medal was created on 16 February 1946, and was awarded to everyone who had been a member of the Belgian Resistance (a very risky thing to be!), as well as to those who were in the intelligence service in occupied Belgium. The ribbon colours are symbolic - black for the dark days of the occupation, red for the blood shed by the Resistance fighters, and green to symbolise the hope of liberation.
