Croix de Guerre 1939-45

Instituted on 26 September 1939 by Edouard Daladier, this was the WW2 equivalent of the WW1 Croix de Guerre (War Cross). It is inscribed with "1939" on the reverse. The first citations were made soon after its institution. As with the WW1 version, the purpose of the Cross was to reward individuals for specific acts of bravery.
