Nazi War Merit Medal

This was instituted by Hitler in 1940 as a purely civilian award to prevent erosion of the prestige of the War Merit Cross, which was being handed out at an alarming rate in the early months of WW2. It was given to recognise civilians who made an important contribution, such as significantly exceeding production quotas.
