Burma Star

This rewards service from 11 December 1941 in the Burma Theatre. If the holder was also entitled to the Pacific Star only the one earned first was worn, and a clasp and rose could be worn as noted above.

The same qualifying service periods applying to the Pacific Star applied to the Burma Star.

For the Army, the theatre included any part of Burma between 11 December 1941 and 2 September 1945; service in the provinces of Begal and Assam in the period 1 May 1942 to 2 September 1945; and service in China and Malaya between 16 February 1942 and 2 September 1945.

The Naval operational area was restricted to the Bay of Bengal, and enclosed by a line running from the southernmost point of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) for a distance of 300 miles south, then to a point 300 miles west of the southernmost point of Sumatra, and continuing east to the western side of the Sunda Strait, including the Malacca Straits.

RAF aircrew had to make one operational sortie. RAF ground crew had the same restrictions as the Army.

The ribbon is dark blue to represent the British Forces, orange for the sun, with a thick central red stripe for Commonwealth Forces.
