Indian General Service Medal 1939-1945

This was awarded for three years' non-operational service in the period between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945. It was not awarded to recipients of the Defence Medal, and was awarded in addition to the War Medal. Its award was confined to British officers resident in India or commissioned by the Viceroy. Those serving outside India, not resident in India or who were recruited from outside India for the Indian armed forces were not eligible.
