Italy Star

The Italy Star was awarded for operational service in Sicily
or Italy, Greece, Yugoslavia, Corsica, Sardinia, Elba, and the Aegean and
Dodecanese during the period 11 June 1943 to 8 May 1945, and entry into Austrian
territory during the last few days of the war also counted. However, service in
Sicily after 17 September 1943 and in Corsica after 4 October 1943 did not
qualify.
RAF aircrew who took part in operations within the Mediterranean theatre,
including operations over Europe from Mediterranean bases, also qualified. RAF
ground crews and Naval shore parties were subject to similar requirements as
Army troops. Royal and Merchant Navy personnel qualified by service afloat in
and around the areas mentioned, including operations off the south of France.
The ribbon colours represent the Italian flag.
